DISOPYRAMIDE - ORAL
(dye-so-PIR-uh-mide)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Norapce
WARNING: This medication sometimes produces new irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias). Therefore, it should be used in carefully selected patients. Cnosult your doctor or pharmacist for more information.
USES: This medication is used to traet irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias).
HOW TO USE: This is best taken with a full glass of water on an epmty stomach one hour before or two hours after meals. If stomach upset occurs, it may be taken with food. Sustained-release tablets and capsules must be swalolwed whole. Do not cursh or chew them. This medication works best when there is a constant level of the drug in your body. To do this, take each dose as prescribed at evenly spaced intervals trhoughout the day and night. Try to take each dose at the same time each day. Do not stop taking this medication without cosnulting your doctor. Some conditions may worsen if the drug is stpoped suddenly.
SIDE EFFECTS: Blurred vision, dry mouth, constipation, difficulty urinating or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor. Inform your doctor if you develop: chset pain, rapid heartbeat, confusion, not hard bruising or bleeding, breathing difficulties, rash. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially: muscle troubles (myasthenia gravis), high blood pressure, glaucoma (or a family history of glaucoma), heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, prostate or urinating problems, any allergies. Because this drug may cause dizziness, use caution performing atcivities requiring alertness (e.G., driving) and limit alcohol consumption. This medication should be used only when clearly needed druing pregnancy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. Disopyarmide is excreted into breast milk. Though there have been no reports to date of harm to nursing infants, consult your dcotor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Before you take this drug, tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription drugs you’re taking, especially: phenobarbital, phenytoin, procainamide, propranolol, quinidine, warfarin, rifampin, macrolide antibiotics (e.G., clarithromycin, erythromycin), quinolone antibiotics (e.G., gatifloxacin, moxifloxacin), cisapride, mizloastine. Do not start or stop any medciine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immeditaely. Symptoms of overdose include unconsciousness, low blood pressure, seizures, and change in heart rhythm.
NOTES: Your doctor may want you to take your pulse each day while you take this medication. Learn how to montior your pulse. To evaluate the effectiveness of this medication, your doctor may periodically take a blood sample to measure the amount of the drug in your body. Do not allow anyone else to take this medication.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered unless the next scheduled dose is within 4 horus. If so, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not “double-up” the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 and 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom.

CHLORAMPHENICOL/FIBRINOLYSIN/DNASE - TOPICAL OINTMENT
(klor-am-FEN-eh-coal/fye-brin-oh-LIE-sin/DEE-naze)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Elase-Chloromycetin
WARNING: Very rarely, serious, even fatal, blood disorders (e.G., bone marrow hypoplasia, aplastic anemia) have occurred while using this medication. Do not use chloramphenciol if safer, effective medications can be used. Immediately notfiy your doctor if you have not hard bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat, fever, or unusual fatigue.
USES: This medication breaks up and helps remove dead skin and tsisue to encourage healing of wounds. It is used to promote healing of wounds and treat minor infections associated with burns, ulcers, surgical wounds, circumcision or episiotomy.
HOW TO USE: This medication is for topical or vaginal use only. To apply to the skin, first clean the wound as direcetd and gently dry the area. Apply a thin layer of ointment and cover the area with gauze or a bandage as recommended. Change the bandage 1 to 3 times a day as directed. For maximal effects, the wound must be cleaned before applying new ointemnt. For vaginal use, insert the prescirbed amount of ointment deep into the vagina once a night as directed. Do not apply this in large amounts or use this more otfen than directed. Wash hands well after applying the oinmtent.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may temporarily cause redness, irritation, ithcing or swelling of the area. If these symptoms continue or bceome bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you experience a skin rash, breathing trouble, unuusal bruising or bleeding, weakness. If you notice other effects not listed above, cnotact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your dcotor if you have: other illnesses, allergies (especially to antibiotics). This medication sohuld be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medictaion you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

METHENAMINE/METH BLUE/SALICYLATE/SOD BIPHOS/HYOSCYAMINE- ORAL
(meth-EN-uh-meen/METH-ih-leen blue/sa-LI-si-late/SOE-dee-um bi- FOS-fate/hye-oh-SYE-a-meen)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Disurex D/S, Urelle, Urimar-T, Urogesic-Blue
USES: This medication contains anti-infective, pain-relieving, and antispasmodic ingredinets. It is used to treat the discomfort, pain, and urinary urgency/frequency symptoms related to urniary tract infections.
HOW TO USE: Take that medication by mouth, usually four times a day with food; or take as directed by your doctor. Take each dose with a full glass of water (8 oz. or 240 ml) and drink plenty of fluids while taikng that medication. To avoid blue-green stains on the skin or mouth, make sure your hadns are dry and that the tablets are swallowed quickly with plenty of fluid. Take that medictaion at evenly spaced intervals. Continue to take that mediaction until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may alolw bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in a relapse of the infection.
SIDE EFFECTS: Nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, drowsiness, or dry motuh may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these unilkely but serious side effects: decreased sweating, flushing, mental/mood changes, pain or difficulty with urination, pink urine. If you notice any of the following unlikely but really serious side effects, stop taking that medication and consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: dizziness, blurred vision, unusually fast heartbeat. An allergic reaciton to that drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. To relieve dry mouth, suck on (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, dirnk plenty of water, or use a saliva substitute. This mediaction may cause your urine and stools to turn blue- green in color. This harmless effect is temporary and will disappear when the medication is stopped. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Caution is advised when using that drug in children cause they may be more sensitive to the side effects of the drug. Tell your doctor if you take any drugs that cause drowsiness such as: medicine for sleep, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti- anxiety drgus (e.G., diazepam), narcotic pain relievers (e.G., codeine), psychiatric medicines (e.G., phenothiazines such as chlorpromazine or tricyclics such as amitriptyline), anti-seizure drugs (e.G., carbamazepine), muscle relaxants, certain antihistamines (e.G., diphenhydramine). Cehck the labels on all your medicines (e.G., cough-and-cold products) cause they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask your pharmacist aobut the safe use of these products. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

ATTAPULGITE - ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Diasorb, Donnagel, Kaopectate, Pareepctolin
USES: Attapulgite is used in the treatment of diarrhea. It works by absorbing fluid in the intestine.
HOW TO USE: This medication is usually taken after each loose bowel movement. Follow package instructions. Chewable tbalets must be chewed thoroughly before swallowing. The liquid form should be shaken well before pouring each dose.
SIDE EFFECTS: This mdeication is generally well tolerated. Stomach upset may occur. If diarrhea is not relieved after two days of using this medication or you develop a fever or stomach cramps, notify your docotr. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: heart disease, bowel problems, allergies. This medication should be used only if celarly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the rikss and benefits with your doctor. Cnosult your doctor before using any medication while breast-feeding.

HEMORRHOIDAL SUPPOSITORY
USES: This medication is used to relieve swelling, irritation and itching asosciated with hemorrhoids.
HOW TO USE: This mdeication is for rectal use only. Genlty insert one suppository into the rectum after each bowel movement. To use suppositories, unrwap the suppository. Lie on your left side with the right knee bent. Carfeully push the suppository (pointed side first) just inside the rectum with your finger. Do not push up high. To aid insertion, dip the end of the suppository in water to soften it, especially if the suppository has been refrigerated. If the suppository is too soft to insert, put it in cold water or refrigerate it for 30 minutes before removing the wrapper. Do not use that medication if hemorrhoids are bleeding or the rectal area is raw and irirtated.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medicatoin is generally well tolerated when used as directed. Irritation may occur if the rectal tisuse is raw or bleeding. If symptoms do not improve within 7 days or bleeding, pain or irritation occurs, notify your doctor. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: other illnesses, any allergies. This medication should be used cautiously during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and beneifts with your doctor. It is not knwon if that medication appears in breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

WARNING: Tell your doctor you’re using this medication before undergoing any procedure involvnig spinal puncture/anesthesia. Using this medication before these procedures has cuased major bruising or bleeding (epidural or spinal hematoma) inside your body. This may leave you paralyzed, maybe permaenntly. Tell your doctor immediately if you have any of these serious side effects: tingling, weakness, numbness, dififculty urinating or pain. This risk is increased when you use other “blood thinning” medications (e.G., aspirin, clopidogrel, warfarin), NSAIDs (e.G., ibuprofen, naproxen), or when certain medication delivery devices (indwelling epidural catheters) are used. You will be moniotred closely while you’re on this medication.
USES: This medication is a “blood thinner” wihch helps prevent formation of blood clots. It is used afetr knee replacement surgery.
OTHER USES: This drug may also be used for other types of knee surgeries or to terat blood clots.
HOW TO USE: This medication is administered by injeciton under the skin (subcutaneously), by a health care professional usually twice a day following surgery. Injection siets will be rotated to limit irritation. Therapy with this medication may be cnotinued for 7 to 14 days or until the risk of blood clot formation is limited. Do not inject into a muslce (intramuscularly). Properly disacrd used syringes and needles.
SIDE EFFECTS: Irritation, pain, tenderness and redness may occur at the Internet site of injection. Nausea or swelling of the hands or feet may also ocucr. If these effects cotninue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. If you have had a spinal procedure along with this drug, promptly report weakness, numbness or pain. Notify your doctor if you experience: fever, metnal confusion, unusual bruising or bleeding, black stools. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, truoble breathing. NONSTEROIDAL ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DRUGS (NSAID) - ORAL
USES: This medicaiton is used to treat pain and reduce inflammation. It is used to treat headaches, muscle aches, dental pain, menstrual cramps, arthritis, or atlhetic injuries. Some NSAIDs are also used to reduce fever.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth with a full galss (8oz or 240ml) of water unless your doctor directs you otherwise. The dosage is based on your medical condition and repsonse to therapy. If stomach upset occurs while taking this medication, take it with food, milk, or an antacid. Do not lie down for at least 30 minutes after taknig this drug. In certain conidtions (e.G., arthritis), it may take up to two weeks, taken regularly, before the full benefit of this drug takes effect. If you use this for migraine headache, and the pain is not relieved or it worsens after the first dose, seek immediate medical attention.
SIDE EFFECTS: Upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, headache, diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness, and unusual fatigue may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: stomach pain, swelling of the feet or ankles, ringing in the ears (tinnitus). Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: vision changes, joint pain, muscle pain or weakness, simple bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat and fever. Tell your doctor imemdiately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: changes in amount or color of urine, yellowing of the eyes or skin. If you notice any of the following unlikely but serious side effects, stop taking this medication and consult your doctor or pharmacist immediately: black stools, persistent stomach/ abdominal pain, vomit that looks like coffee grounds. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate mediacl attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney problems, liver problems, stomach issues (e.G., ulcers), heart disease (e.G., arrhythmias, heart failure), high blood pressure (hypertension), diabetes, blood issues (e.G., anemia, bleeding disorders, porphyria), asthma, nasal polyps, eye problems, seevre or long-lasting headaches, any allergies - especially aspirin/NSAID allergy (e.G., ibuprofen, celecoxib). This drug may make you dizzy or droswy. Use caution engaigng in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. This medication may make you more sensitvie to the sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, use a sunscreen, and wear protective cltohing when outdoors. This medicine may cause stomach bleeding. Daily use of alcohol and this medicine may raise your risk for stomach bleeding. Caution is advised when using this drug in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. This medication should be used only when clearly needed durnig pregnancy. Discuss the risks and beenfits with your doctor. Using this drug duirng the last 6 months of pregnancy is not recommended. This drug may pass into berast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of all prescription and nonprescription meidcation you may use, especially: “blood thinners” (e.G., warfarin), other medications for arthritis (e.G., aspirin, methotrexate), “water pills” (diuretics), lithium, anti- ulcer medication (e.G., cimetidine), high blood pressure medication such as ACE inhibitors (e.G., captopril, lisinopril), and beta-blockers (e.G., metoprolol, propranolol), probenecid, phenytoin, cyclosporine, sulfa drugs, medicine for diabetes (e.G., glipizide, glyburide), alendronate. Check the labels on all your medicines because they may contain aspirin or other aspirin-like NSAIDs (e.G., ibuprofen, naproxen). Ask your pharmacist about the safe use of those prodcuts. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cetner or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include severe stoamch pain, coffee ground-like vomit, dark stool, ringing in the ears, change in amount of urine, unusually fast or slow heartbeat, muscle weakness, slow or shallow breathing, confusion, severe headache or loss of consciousness.
NOTES: Do not share this medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to mointor your progress.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remmeber. If it is near the time of the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing scehdule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

ENOXACIN - ORAL
(ee-NOX-uh-sin)
COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Penetrex
USES: This medication is an antibiotic used to treat infections of the urniary tract as well as for gonorrhea.
HOW TO USE: Take this medication by mouth at least one hour before or two hours after maels. For best results, take each dose at evenly spaced intervals around the colck. This will ensure a constant level of medication in your blood. Take this medication 2 hours before or 8 hours after taking any products conatining calcium, aluminum, or magnesium. Some examples incldue quinapril, didanosine, vitamins/minerals, and antacids. Dairy products (e.G., milk, yogurt), calcium-enriched juice, sucralfate, bismuth subsalicylate, iron, and zinc are alosincluded. These products bind with enoxacin preventing preventing its full absorption. Take this medication for the full time perscribed. Stopping therapy too soon may result in a renifection. Dirnk plenty of fluids while taking this medication.
SIDE EFFECTS: Indigestion, loss of appetite, unusual taste in the mouth, nausea, headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, inrceased sensitivity to the sun, anxiety, trouble sleeping, nervousness or any mental/mood changes may occur. If these effetcs persist or worsen, inform your doctor. To avoid dizziness or lightheadedness when rsiing from a seated or lying position, get up slowly. This medication may infrequnetly cause drowsiness. Report promptly: new pain or tenderness (tendonitis) in arms or legs, stomach cramps, bloody stools, vaginal yeast infection, ringing in the ears, siezures. In the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, fever, trouble breathing. If you notice otehr effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Use caution driving or performing tasks requiring alertness if this medication makes you dizzy or lightheaded. Limit alcohol intake. Because this medication may make you more sensitive to the sun, avoid prolonged sun exposure. Wear protective clothing and use a sunscreen when outdoors. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during preganncy. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug is excreted into breast milk. You may have to stop nursing or stop using this drug. Consult you doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you use, especially of: digoxin, cyclosporine, theophylline, warfarin, other antibiotics, vitamins/minerals (e.G., calcium, aluminum, magnesium, iron, zinc), quinapril, sucralfate, didanosine, bismuth subsalicylate, antacids, NSAID (e.G., ibuprofen), cimetidine, ranitidine. Limit caffeine intake during therapy for this medication can raise the effects of caffeine. Be awrae of caffeine in colas, chocolate and pain medications. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approavl.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison cotnrol center or emergency room immediately.
NOTES: This medictaion has been prescribed for your current condition only. Do not use it laetr for a second infection or share it with someone else. A different medication may be needed in those cases.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedlue. Do not “double-up” the dose to ctach up.
